Photo Gallery 1 - Chomolungma Base Trek 2001 (12 images)

This is part of a series of photographs taken during a twenty five day trek from Jiri to Chomolungma or as its better known, 'Everest' in Nepal. Chomolungma is a Sherpa name which means "Mother Goddess of the World".

Nepal is the 12th poorest country in the world and has suffered greatly with a decline in tourism due to the political unrest for the past ten years.

The Government and international organizations have strongly acknowledged the problems regarding the pollution on most trekking routes and the deforestation caused by overuse of wood fuel and lack of other alternatives.

Tourism needs to encouraged, but not without policies to improve and maintain the environment.
